OCTOBER 2024 UPDATE
Good morning beautiful people! I am trying to keep these updates from becoming novels in their own right…so, let’s just jump right in shall we?
One more thing….I AM GRATEFUL FOR YOU! Please accept my (((virtual hug))) 🙂
Thought I’d throw in a FAVE THINGS list: Click on blue lettering to go to the link
1. What I am listening to these days:
2. My favorite superfoods company right now:
3. My fave Book series (rereading for the 4th time!)
*************************************************************************************************
Health & Wellness:
As we head into the winter months I am going to be diligent about staying healthy and keeping my clients healthy.
If you show up with symptoms you normally don’t experience or are new within the last 72 hours, like a cough, runny nose, feeling “off”, sore/scratchy throat, watery eyes, slight fever, aches, etc….THIS IS a sign that you should not be in my chair that day. I see an average of 25-30 people a week normally, it potentially exposes multiple people to anything you give me. It’s a gift that gets payed forward!
I have many clients with ongoing allergies, chronic coughs, chronic illness, and other symptoms that make them feel not great just as a daily experience. This IS NOT what I am referencing here.
I’ll just end with this:
Please think about how you truly feel the day of your appointment and whether you might expose me and others to illness by coming in that day. I may ask you to reschedule if i feel the neecd. I would MUCH rather see you on a day off to get you back in than have to cancel an entire week or more of clients because I am sick.
Stay well through this winter and take your vitamins!
Thank you to my clients that don’t hesitate to reschedule if they feel “off” or have out of the norm symptoms….I see you and appreciate you!
Scheduling:
Most of you have done fabulous about prescheduling through the holidays whenever i send out a notice…We are all adults that manage complex schedules in our lives and I send out lots of reminders and updates so THANK YOU for booking ahead to keep us both on track.
Just like in July I reminded everyone (and after) To book the holidays….
I am now reminding you in Autumn to BOOK the NEW YEAR AND EARLY SPRING.
Here’s the % booked break down for Jan-April
JAN-90% FULL Only 10% capacity left….
FEB-90% FULL
MAR-80% FULL
APR-70% FULL
I am only booking into 4 days a week on average in 2025 and most people know this and are being very good about securing their spots into Spring. Please don’t worry that i won’t be able to get you back in if you need to move a prescheduled appointment. THAT is exactly why I want to only book 4 days a week, “on paper” so to speak….I need to keep flex days to reschedule into every week. This ensures that.
This last year has taught me many lessons and I am finally at the place to set strong boundaries.
The morale of the story is BOOK NOW if you want an appointment in JAN-APR!
Thank you all so much for continuing to choose me as your hairstylist and trying to provide you with a peaceful, beautiful space to get your hair done. Onward and Upward….
Please only text me if you are cancelling within 24 hours otherwise please reach out to Jennifer for cancellations. reschedules, waitlisting, etc…I appreciate that as it allows me to focus on doing great hair during work hours!

HOLIDAY AND NEW YEAR UPDATE!
Here we are again…the end of another lightning fast year! Anyone know how to stop this train? LOL. Anywhoo….
I just wanted to, as always, express MY DEEP GRATITUDE that you are my clients. I have personal relationships with each one of you and I am warmed up inside by that knowledge.
I’ll do my best to keep this brief and succinct…”yeah..sure Sean…heard that before!” Ha HA!
OK….Here we go!
Last minute gift ideas? How about Fable rune candles and lotion? Handmade Purses? Deep conditioning mask for hair goodness?
MONEY, HONEY…
If run a debit/credit card or you use Venmo I will not be passing along the fees they charge me to use their services…It doesn’t sit well with me to pass that to you! I am happy to be paid in cash where it fits your budget and lifestyle. My general prices range from $70-195 for most services depending on how many services I do in one appointment. I always have change on hand FYI.
BOOKING AND SCHEDULING UPDATE
As you all know…I see A LOT of clients and this creates an “opportunity” for me to need to book into the future. This is not new news to any of you hopefully!
Currently, I am booking into April/May and so if you do not have appointments out till then…you risk being on a waitlist. So call now for Spring booking!
TOUGH LOVE SECTION:
I do run into a few folks who consistently don’t book ahead and it’s becoming challenging to accomodate this lapse. I have to either put you onto a waitlist or what i normally do is put you on my reschedule day or my day off. I am going to be having MUCH more strong boundaries in 2024 around this.
I need to keep my reschedule days for clients with current appointments that need to move them around as things come up…I need to keep those days free for that!
If you read these emails and don’t book ahead I will be putting “the ball in your court”…I have done my best to keep everyone abreast of the scheduling and how far out I am booking. The rest is up to you!
Here’s where the coming months stand: (Book accordingly!)

VACATION NEWS

May 2024 bring much needed PEACE and CALM to our lives!
OCTOBER 2024 BOOKING AND STUDIO UPDATE
1. BOOKING
If you are reading this, you are in a group of clients that I am giving first crack into booking for 2024. I am opening up the first 4 months of the new year as of RIGHT NOW and you are welcome to book the whole year or longer if that is your preference. I know some of you like the stability of booking out the year. Text Jennifer, my booking manager at 805-441-4879. Currently, I am close to 100% booked through the end of January…there are some spots in the last week open but, very few…I WOULD SUGGEST THAT IF YOU SEE ME ANYWHERE BETWEEN EVERY 2-10 WEEKS THAT YOU BOOK TO AT LEAST MARCH RIGHT NOW TO GET YOUR PREFERED SPOT WITH MY NEW SCHEDULE!
2. 2024 SCHEDULE
In 2024, My NEW SCHEDULE is generally going to be WED-SAT with sun/mon/tues OFF. I will be expanding my saturday hours and randomly throwing in a monday here and there. My “make-up” day for those that need to cancel and reschedule but can’t get back in reasonably will be Tuesdays. I am trying my best to create a 4 day work week.
3. VACAY
“I DESERVE A VACATION” DATES REMINDER-I will be unavailable for hair from January 1st-16th 2024
4. HEALTH
As we head into the cooler weather, I will still be keeping my front doors open, air purifier on, and the space heaters on! So, bring layers! I want fresh clean air at all times circulating through the studio. I am more than happy to wear a mask if that makes you more comfortable. My rule going forward is…you walk in wearing one…I put mine on.
5. PRICING
As far as pricing goes, we are all WELL AWARE that is gotten crazy out there! I am still going to keep offering you the wholesale (plus a few dollars for shipping) discount on retail hair products.
Currently, the hair manufacturers I do biz with have raised their product and haircolor prices 3X this year. This last hike was substantial…most of the haircare products I carry vary from $17-24 wholesale and $34-50 retail. You can see that I am offering a VERY fair deal on these.
The new property owners have also added some new commercial monthly fees as well. Yes, the property sold in July. The good news is that the House on the property is being rented to an awesome family who will also have their personal training business located here as well. So…keep an eye out for the new and improved “Sean With Abs!” LOL!
My Hair service prices are a tad wonky and I will be cleaning them up to make them more “whole number” than they are right now. I expect that by Early Spring I will be raising my rates by about $5 per service to keep up. Below is my new “cleaned up” general pricing. Some things are lower than before, some higher, only by a couple dollars either direction. Cleaned up Pricing starts immediately.
Short cut: Above Chin-$65
(old price 62)
Med cut: Below Chin-$70

6. GRATITUDE ALWAYS!!
Thank you for your care, understanding, and flexibility over the years…as we keep going into this “interesting time to be alive” moment…It’s going to take all of us exhibiting MORE kindness than ever before! Glad to have you on the team 🙂 See you soon in my Jurassic park hair studio as I am now rebranding it…LOL. Minus the Velociraptors!
UPDATE: CHRISTMAS IN JULY!
Howdy! What does christmas in July even mean? Well…in the southern hemisphere sometimes they celebrate a second christmas in July to make it feel more “wintery” for them since December can be very hot!
In MY world what it means is that NOW is the time to BOOK YOUR HAIR APPOINTMENTS for the holidays because it’s getting full already! I generally book out 4 months with the exception of the holidays. That is more like 5 months from the end of the year!
I know, I know….None of us even know what we are doing for the Holidays most likely, so scheduling for it is like throwing a dart at a dartboard blindfolded. Let’s try anyway, eh?
I have built in wiggle room for rescheduling that i know WILL need to happen especially as we get closer and you form up your family plans and possible party going.
SO, Book now…we will figure it all out later. I want you to all get the appointments you need to look beautiful.
TEXT Jennifer, my scheduling goddess, at 805-441-4879 to get squared away!
On a more personal note…and I will try not to cry here…I can’t thank all of you enough for the levels of compassion and kindness you have shown me as I have traversed these rocky last couple of years and in particular…this year. I am pretty sure most of you know that this year has handed me the most challenging health issues i have ever faced in my life while trying to balance owning 2 businesses, supporting friends, having a life, and navigating way too much change.
You have been SO flexible when I have needed to shift things…sometimes last minute. Please don’t think I take you or your appointments for granted…quite the opposite..I try to keep things as stable as possible and this year…it’s been hard. You have all shown grace, kindness, and patience with me and I am keenly aware of that goodwill.
It will be a welcome relief when I can put some of this year behind me! Almost there…..
Again, without crying (too late), I want to just let you all know how DEEPLY grateful I am. Sounds so cliché doesn’t it? That is why words can never express what the Heart wants to say…so, imagine that I am BEAMING a huge heart felt smile and Virtual Hug right to YOU. Of course, I will let you know in person as well when i see you.
THANK YOU for your support and I know that with all the changes in this crazy world…I would like my space and time with you to be a refuge of sorts for you…so, ANYTHING i can do to help create that for you while you are in my chair…please ask.
YOU ARE ALL WONDERFUL PEOPLE and I AM HUMBLED to KNOW EACH OF YOU.
A client makes these purse bags and i just love them because they solve the “black hole” issue that I see so many women come into the salon with…my favorite feature is the fact that they have pockets that ring the entire inside and so no more digging around to find keys, phone, wallet, etc…..she can custom make them as well and you can always request different color combos too. They are solidly made and have a light interior instead of black or dark brown that so many purses have…how are you supposed to find anything in a black hole? By feel? LOL….annoying!
I just wanted to support and showcase a local artisan with something that i thought was really practical and good looking….good price point at $65. Available at the hair studio!
UPDATE: JUNE 2023
Happy June….So, let’s talk Autumn and Holiday season! LOL!
Wonder of wonders…I am currently booked almost 100% into October!
I STRONGLY suggest that if you want to see me for an appointment in October…BOOK NOW.
Here is the current booking percentages of each month leading to the Fall:
JUNE 100%
JULY 100%
AUGUST 100%
SEPTEMBER 95%
OCTOBER 90%
NOVEMBER 85%
DECEMBER 65%
Looking at these….By mid-July or so, you can see how I will be booked close to 100% for then rest of the year!
If you hesitate or forget…there are always cancellations and my books move around…BUT, you will have to take what is available and that might not be during the days/times you prefer.
If you DON’T have an appointment and want one BEFORE October….call us and get on the waitlist…there are also a very few random spaces here and there that are still open.
Just a reminder…we are all going to need to be flexible and understanding when it comes to january…I will be taking off close to 3 weeks to recharge my batteries and come at 2024 with renewed enthusiasm and focus.
I know it sounds strange and plans shift especially during holiday season BUT….I would highly recommend that you actually book through the end of the year SOON.
NEW product Line!
I will be starting by carrying some of their candles and body/hand lotions…if you want to check out their other offerings here is their website:
I will be happy to order anything for you and I will be offering these at just above the wholesale price in order to help your money go further!
LATEST UPDATE
SPRING 2023 APRIL 22nd
BOOKING UPDATE and other news….
Just reminding everyone to check their schedules and that if you haven’t booked your appointments out to September/Oct., you should jump on it! I am almost 100% fully booked until then.
Here are my vacation dates for 2023 so you can plan your hair appointments accordingly:
AUGUST 13-18th
NOVEMBER 23-28th
DECEMBER 24-26th
It sounds weird to say but…I’ll probably be reminding you to do end of year holiday booking sometime in “Christmas in July!”
You pretty much need to book ahead to at least september right now and get the dates you want.
If you have to move any appointments around as you get closer to those appointments…I have 1 day per week for that kind of rebooking. Usually, it will be a Monday/Tuesday or Thursday. I will do my best to get you back into the same week or the next…I will ask that you try to keep your appointments where they are as much as possible.
I want to note that all these changes are so that i can service you all in a more relaxed, calm, and efficient way!
If it sounds like I am repeating myself in this case…I am! Folks are putting it off or forgetting. I have been a bad boy recently and started booking people into my days off and extending my hours back to 10 hour days as a way to help out accomodate my more “spontaneous booking” clients….that’s on me.
In order to be a fully Happy Human, be excellent at and LOVE my career….I will no longer offer my days off or extended hours as a way to prebook into my schedule. A new day is dawning in the way I am choosing to work.
Setting boundaries is very difficult for me and yet, I am determined to master this. My “Body’s Voice” is becoming my guide and has no problem letting me know when I am trending into unhealthy life/work habits.
If you find yourself on my waitlist…Please remember, people do cancel. Spots do open up…all the time. BUT, the trade off is flexibility with dates/times. If you do end up on the waitlist…be assured we are checking it AND you are welcome to text Jennifer at 805-441-4879 anytime to see if any openings occured.
I understand that booking like this is foreign to some. It’s not nor will it ever be a perfect system. IT’S HAPPENING IN MANY PLACES WHERE THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS FOR THE CLIENT/PATIENT/CUSTOMER LOAD…and the world of hair is not immune.
The most common way certain professionals are creating more space in their books is to either go concierge with their business and/or in my industry, they raise their prices in a big jump. Although, I will continue to raise my prices every year in to keep up with inflation, rising costs, and higher prices for my goods…The BIG yearly jumps don’t sit well with me. I prefer the small per year bumps.
If you want to download the Vagaro APP (my booking software) and have all your appointments in one place where you can see them PLUS add yourself to a waitlist and even check my schedule…the APP link is: CLICK HERE!
As always, I am DEEPLY grateful for your care, and patronage. It means the world to me. 100%. I appreciate you all supporting me the way you have and for some of you, driving a ways to my cute little town! I am honoured to be your hair guy! I am feeling much better as I implement these changes and stay diligent with my boundaries that make true healing, a full life, and vitality possible!
I encourage YOU to do the same in any area of your life where you are being unhealthy, exhausting yourself, and losing your sense of joy.
In that spirit, the last little bit of news that you will want to take into consideration when booking past the holidays, when we get there, is that I am taking off the first 3 weeks of January to take stock, rest, travel, and then when I come back I will ease in again by only working 3 days a week for a few weeks as well…SO, that means that if hair appointments are a top priority for you and waiting a bit longer to see me during JAN/FEB isn’t your cup of tea….you might want to be proactive with those dates either now or as we get closer to July/Aug.
BE WELL in all ways.
PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out to my Scheduling Manager, Jennifer Johnson at 805-441-4879 (TEXT IS BEST) and we can get you squared away with the best options for scheduling.
LATEST UPDATE
January 9th, 2023
To all my beautiful clients…how can I express how grateful I am to you all for your continued support and kindness? You mean the world to me and I just can’t say it enough!
I know that many of you are cheering me on in taking more time to have a life outside of work. Well….
The last 3 years of so many unexpected changes, business closures, hustling 60+ hour work weeks, the deaths of too many long time friends and clients has finally caught up to me.
I’m still in a bit of shock at how deeply affected my body is and how fast it’s happened. The last 3 weeks have been a whirlwind. It sounds like I’m saying “oh, I’m tired…” but it goes much deeper and systemic than that…
Something is dis-regulating all my body systems and not letting up. There is more “behind the scene” things I can’t go into in this format (we can talk at your appointment times) but, I’m suffice to say this is a wake up call that I can’t ignore.
I’m going to be getting help from many excellent Wellness and Medical people and I’m assembling an A-team to put Sean back together again. Some of my upcoming health appointments are going to necessitate moving clients around on those appointment days. I’ll try minimize it but I have to take whenever the Docs will book me into their schedule…
That said…it’s clear i CAN’T work 10 hours a day anymore and I need to pull back and reassess how much I work and make immediate changes. I am taking January 17th-26th off to take care of myself and It’s going to take a lot of REST, gentleness, HEALING GRACE, friendship, and honesty to stay close to hearing what my body wants….I NEED to listen. Getting better has to be my 1000% absolute priority right now.
A new work schedule is going to be instituted (details below) and will go into effect right now! I DO humbly and profoundly apologize for any juggling of scheduling this will create. You have all been so patient with me as i Navigate these first few years of self employment.
MY NEW SCHEDULE:
When I return I will still work 4 days a week but be only working 8 hours a day and alternating days that start in the morning and end by 4/5pm-ish and then some that start in the late morning/ early afternoon and end at 6/7pm-ish
I’ll still be working in rescheduling days into each month. In addition…If I have to make other shifts I’ll keep everyone in the loop.
You know Jennifer and I will do my best for you!
I know this all is going to create unforeseen ripples that we will weather. What I’ll ask you all for is lots of flexibility, a ton of understanding, and a heap of kindness. Help me by staying open to the changes and at the end of the day I fully understand if the schedule I create does not work for you.
I know you have all been so good at flexing with me as these years have thrown all kinds of challenges our way. I am blessed by the miracles as well and know that we all will continue to experience more miracles. Life is GOOD that way. I believe in Humanity and I believe in GRACE. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I could use your church/ spiritual groups to pray for me as well and stuff like that. I know I’ll find my Magic Mojo again with your understanding.
Moving forward, everyone’s appointments that are going to be personally affected will hear from Jennifer in the next 1-3 weeks about how to best schedule into these changes.
I ask that you keep as much hair related communication with Jennifer as possible…I’ll be in deep healing mode and may not have the bandwidth to respond quickly. Direct Well wishes to me are always welcomed but understand that I may take a bit to get back to you!
In closing, unless you hear from us, assume your appointments stand as they are! We are going to try to make it as easy as we can given the urgency and yet embrace the changes! Nothing about this shift is taken lightly and I’m deeply grateful for you all. Always.
Sean Levahn, your friendly neighborhood Hairstylist.
PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out to my Scheduling Manager, Jennifer Johnson at 805-441-4879 (TEXT IS BEST) and we can get you squared away with the best options for scheduling.
LATEST UPDATE
SPRING 2023 (FEB/MAR)
Good Day to you and HAPPY SPRING!
OK…First things first…..The Personal Stuff…feel free to skip to the BIZ UPDATES below….Many of you are concerned about how I am doing and have asked about the state of my health. I tend to be a private person but in this case…I won’t nor do i WANT to hide my journey. I have come to realize that we are stronger when we help each other and lean on each other…why else are we here?
I have leaned very heavy on my personal faith, my skills, resources, friends, YOU, and my Partner especially to see me through the last 6 months of health challenges. You have all been SO AMAZING while I have been anxious, out of sorts and just not “myself”…
I appreciate all the flexibility you have given me, you have also been very patient as we moved your appointments around to synch you with my new schedule, and I am deeply grateful beyond words..TRULY.
My Cardiologist gave me a bunch of tests that were no joke! I passed with flying colors…my heart is very healthy. All green lights…valves happy, arteries clear, muscle strong, etc.
I am now back to walking a fast 2 miles EVERY morning before 8am. BRRRR!
I am now eating every 4 hours instead of only dinner once a day…My blood labs look good all around, Cervical MRI and Xrays look good, and I am grateful. I am getting Class 4 Laser treatments on my spine and neck, massages, PT, and the last piece is that I will be going to Stanford to see a Neurologist there. I want to tick off all the boxes as i head into my 50’s.
So…for those that care about such things….this is how I am doing. I am strong, healthy on all accounts, and this year is the year that i put myself and my health FIRST. I am determined to give from a full cup and not deplete myself in order to be of service to the world. THAT is not the greatest role modeling!
I have learned A LOT in the last 2 years about the effects of stress, lack of nutrition, overworking, and over committing on our beautiful bodies! One important piece is that our bodies use B vitamins when under stress and my labs showed that I was super low in ALL of them. Not good. THAT definitely can cause the neuro symptoms I have been experiencing. Since supplementing with the B complex and doing the Laser treatments, I have seen HUGE improvements in the last 10 days.
If you are interested in what the laser treatments help with go to this website and check it out! https://www.omniwellness.com/
I have launched a “RENOVATION PROJECT” on my life!
This year…
1. I will be in a 12 week long health coaching program to stay accountable
2. I will be studying to get my certification as a Naturopathic and Ayurvedic practioner to help others in the future with life stresses.
3. Reimagining what my healing studio will be used for to assist the community
4. Dropping from 60-70 hours a week to 32-40 hours a week
5. Weekly therapy sessions
6. Daily exercise with meditation
7. Very little refined sugars and refined carbs…a Whole Foods diet
That’s the health update 🙂
**************************************************************************
UNIFY HAIR STUDIO STUFF:
My new schedule:
MON-11am-7pm
TUES-OFF
WED-9am-5pm
THURS-OFF
FRI-11am-7pm
SAT-9am-5pm
SUN-OFF
I will add onto the mornings or evenings up to 40 hours a week only once the 32 hours are full. I don’t mind staying a bit later than the schedule shows for my after work clients…I DO ask that you get to the studio as close to 5PM as possible though…Thank you!
A note about booking:
Saturdays and Weekday Evening spots are the most popular days and if you are one of those folks that like those times…be smart and grab those spots quite far in the future.
If you are wanting to switch to a weekend appointment…my first available saturday that is open is JUNE 24th. I can accomodate a couple haircuts on a random saturday between now and then…but that is it. Cancellations DO happen and we DO keep a call back wait list for those moments!
I often text you if i feel like a better spot is open than the one you currently have…you never have to say yes…I am just into offering alternate dates/times for you!
I WILL be going to random Dr. appointments in the next few months and since I am so booked (as they are) I will have to possibly move clients around. I will try my best to get them to book me on a day off but you know how that goes…you often have to take what they give you!
Last thing about booking…text jennifer at 805-441-4879 and make sure all the Appointment times you want are squared away for at least till June…it’s a good thing to double check your calendars and look to see that you are set up with me as you would like to be!

Intelligent™ beauty is about harnessing the natural powers of plants without harming the environment. We’re a women-owned company devoted to organic, earth-conscious, cruelty-free, non-toxic beauty products that are proven to work. Our hair and skin care products are supremely effective with plant-based active ingredients that fuse nature and science—and they smell delicious, naturally.
Just a reminder that if you are showing active symptoms of a cold, flu, fever, runny nose, and/or cough please reschedule.
If you have lingering visible symptoms from a previous cold/flu and test negative for Covid for 48 hours before seeing me you can come to your appointment BUT, I still ask that we both wear masks for both our peace of mind and health. I haven’t gotten sick for over two years now and I want to keep it that way.
I trust that you won’t come in with active symptoms that are fresh. If you have recently been on a plane or large indoor gathering I also ask that you wait 4 days before you see me for an appointment. I know A LOT of clients and friends that have gotten Covid within a few days of returing from travel on a plane or attending a conference/wedding/indoor gathering. In full disclosure, I got Covid early in DEC. of 2020 and I do not want to repeat that experience….I am still, 2 years later, navigating the effects on my health.
I will still be keeping the doors to my space wide open, the air purifier on, anti-viral essential oils diffused, and space heaters cranking!! Dress warmly in layers…it’s a cold winter this year!
Thank you for understanding and respecting my stance on this…whether we agree or disagree, we can still be nice and kind to each other!

NOVEMBER 2023 UPDATE
To begin with…I can’t express how dang grateful I am for you all. Truly, truly, truly. I feel like I owe you all a BIG HUG.
Come and get it!
Like many people I know, these last few years have been the most difficult of my life. I’ve been asked to step up and weather multiple big life challenges one after the other.
Thankfully, I have internal resources, mentors, therapists, and meditation skills I have been building over decades. They have been my lifeline. I have grown in leaps and bounds and all these challenges have left me even more committed to compassion and kindness for my fellow human.
YOU have all gotten me through this in your own unique ways. I am deeply grateful you have chosen me to be your Hair wizard!
I’m going to be super honest and transparent in this email and I hope it’s received well!
It’s become quite clear especially after turning 50 and combined with these last 2 years of working non-stop, that my body is not 20 years old anymore…Shocker. New phase of Life and all that! Is it here already? Why is my mind 23 but not my body? I have questions!
I am being given signals I can’t ignore that I MUST put my physical and mental health first and foremost.
I NEED to be happy, healthy, and thriving in order for me to create another 50-60 years (110 years old!) OR SO of being of excellent service to humanity.
So…ya know, boundaries are in order!
In 2023 I will be moving to a 4 day work week. I am also making changes to the way I’m structuring and working in my business. My goal is to make it as smooth a transition as possible for ALL of us!
I’ve worked out a system that is as fair and equitable as I can make it, sets boundaries, keeps my books orderly & financially sustainable, and at the same time still allows for better flexibility for rescheduling clients that need to move their appointments.
How will this directly effect you? Glad you asked 😉
Here’s the highlights:
- I’ll be asking ALL clients to book 3-6 months out. You are welcome to book further. I know that life events will necessitate rescheduling some of those appointments.
- I ask that you protect those hair appointments in your calendar as much as possible.
- In ADDITION to the 4 days a week, I’ll have 1 day each week as an extra “reschedule” day to rebook clients that need to change their appointments.
- In order to maximize the 4 days I will be restructuring what hair services I’ll be offering and when.
- If you like FRI/SAT appointments…those are VERY popular. Or…if you have a restrictive schedule, I suggest booking your appointments 6 months out!
- I will no longer be offering hair cutting services in 2023 for young folks that are under 18 years old.
- Men’s Cuts will be scheduled between 7am-2pm on weekdays, and from 3-7pm on saturdays.
That’s it in a nutshell. I’m under no illusions that my new way will work for everyone.
I’m going to try to accommodate all the different kinds of needs of my clients and STILL put my JOY first. Expanding your circle of service providers may come into play with these changes and If you ever need referrals, let us know!
RETAIL
Let’s be honest. I don’t make my money schlepping hair products! I’m QUITE aware that everything costs more these days and I want to help address that in my own small way!
Starting NOW…all hair products will be sold at my wholesale cost plus sales tax and $3 to help cover shipping. Most products will be around $12-18 ea. instead of $25-45 each.
IN CLOSING….
As we navigate our changing society, I want, I NEED…to be a force of GOOD in the world and I’ll need all my internal resources to meet the coming decades with joy in my heart that I can share with others.
The changes in how I work are just the tip of the iceberg but they will go a long way to establishing the balance I require to stay radiantly healthy as I age and offer my service to our human family.
I, again, cannot express how GRATEFUL I am that you choose me to be your hair wizard and I don’t take that lightly as I initiate these changes. Thank you for being you and May you always be protected, guided and Loved by the Source of all Life.

FEBRUARY 2022 STUDIO UPDATE
As always, I offer you all SUCH gratitude for being my clients, friends, and everything else!
THANK YOU
May this year bring us more clarity, calm, and Grace.
MASK MANDATE CHANGES
Just a quick update to respond to the lifting of the California mask mandate that goes into effect this February 15th.
My studio policy going forward will be this:
I am happy to wear a mask indoors if you request it of me. I will assume that if you walk in not wearing a mask…that means that I do not need to wear one either!
For some of you this may all feel too soon and others are singing hallelujah….
I choose to honour all paths and will mirror what you come in wearing for a bit longer. I DO draw the line at onesies, bikinis, and mumus.
I know some of you would love to see me in ANY of those!
I will let you all know when or if that policy will change in the future as we figure out what living alongside this virus looks like for us all collectively and personally.
Throughout the rest of 2022 if you are showing signs of a sore throat, runny nose, cough, cold/flu, or allergy symptoms I will most likely ask you to wear a mask during your appointment…getting sick disrupts my schedule something fierce and I will be avoiding that as much as I can! This policy goes for me as well.
Be Heathy, Be well, and Stay KIND!
SCHEDULING
Clarification of my scheduling policy:
In order for me to be fully present with each one of you while you are in my chair… I have a guideline for scheduling.
If you need to schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment here are the steps:
1. TEXT (preferably) or call my Scheduling Manager, Jennifer Richmond. Contact info below.
2. Wait 24-48 hours for her to respond and if she has not been able to get back to you please text me directly .
3. If you have any Hair questions, personal discussions, or are needing to cancel your appointment within 24 hours (try to give me 2 days notice) or for the same day….text me directly.
Hopefully that gives you a clear path to scheduling and allows me to be centered on client care, stay focused, and at the same time…meet your scheduling needs.

NEW CLIENT REFERALLS
I am honoured and Love that you feel like you can trust me enough to refer your family, friends, and even strangers to me. I don’t take that kind of trust lightly! While I love the idea of always keeping new clients coming…
I am entering a different phase of my life and business strategy. I will not be accepting any new clients through 2022. I want to stay connected and committed to my current clientele and not getting so spread thin with too many clients.
When my client load get too big I have to work 6 days a week and there are virtually no spaces left for rescheduling anyone that needs to move/reschedule their appointments. That is unacceptable to me as a professional and I need to build in flexibility for that to happen and be able to get a client back in within an acceptable timeframe.
Ya feel me?? I KNOW you do!
So…for now..please give my condolences to the marvelous people that will not be able to sit in my chair, drink tea, “spill the tea”, and leave with fabu hair.
Insert the Sad emoji face here!
NEW YEAR 2022 STUDIO UPDATE
What do I say about 2021? Reflecting on it all, it’s as if we have lived many years in this last year.
I have been no stranger to overwhelm and intensity this year. The past 22 months have initiated a personal transformation that I am still undergoing and understanding.
I am going to be entirely honest and just say that at this stage…If it doesn’t bring me joy…I am going to make changes as best as I can to place me on a Path where Joy lives.
The focus on assisting others with their mental health has been a passion of mine for over 12 years with my Sound Healing business and I am going to add myself into the mix now and tend to my own garden as well. Metaphorically and hopefully literally in the spring!
I think that opening TWO “brick and mortar” businesses in the middle of a global pandemic has given me a certain GRIT, FOCUS, and DRIVE that I personally needed to get through this storm. It’s come at a cost but I was willing to bear it to get some LIFT under my wings!
Yet, in spite of the challenges of the last year, I believe firmly that WE ALL ARE SURROUNDED BY LOVE, GRACE, and GUIDANCE! We just have to look within, listen, and let our actions be guided by Integrity.
My faith in basic human goodness has not diminished…in fact, I see evidence of it everywhere. It’s absolutely obvious. You just have to be willing to look for it instead of all the dark crap and asshats that are too easy to find. I firmly believe that GOOD always wins.
UPDATED SAFETY MEASURES
-
- I decided to go ahead and spring for a high end air purifier that is hospital grade and lab tested to kill Sars Cov-2 among MANY other viruses and bacteria. It also cleans the air many times per hour and reduces allergens and odors. It’s on ALL THE TIME, whether you hear it or not, and it’s within 4ft of the chair you are sitting in during your appointment.
-
Just a reminder for inside the salon, especially right now…Masks are on, Air Purifier is on, virtual hugs are still in effect, and doors are open as much as the weather allows. So, LAYER UP! With the door open and fresh air circulating…it may be chilly from time to time but I can point my space heater directly at you (or not!) Hopefully, things will look different sooner than later.
-
I hope it goes without saying but if you are showing any ACTIVE symptoms of a cold, flu, or a cough….please reschedule before you come into the salon. It’s a total bummer…I get it. At minimum…I don’t want to get or spread a common cold because I’ll have to cancel a few days of clients while I wait to get PCR test results back. Rapid tests are impossible to find. I see an average of 26 people a week and I HAVE to protect them all as much as I can…..at least I have to try! I am grateful to those of you that have rescheduled if you didn’t feel great…thank you for your conscientiousness and care.

SCHEDULING
As many of you already know, I intend to be in my hair studio for at least another 15 years, so….my plan is that I will scale back my hours to a sustainable pace, get an actual week or more of REAL vacation (after these last 2 years…daddy needs one, maybe 10!)
These changes will make booking with me a more high priority in your schedules.
THE NUMBERS
Currently, I am 95% booked within a 12 week window and 85% booked in the following 4 weeks as well.
I am asking most of my clients to book out multiple appointments in order to be seen on the schedules you are used to. I truly appreciate the willingness that most of you have shown with this.
Obviously, some of these appointments will need to be moved around as our life events dictate. I have built in rescheduling days/hours into my 2022 schedule to accommodate these possible changes.
NEW CLIENTS
In case you did not hear…I am currently not accepting new clients and will not be for the foreseeable future.
I must stay focused on the CARE and scheduling of my current clientele.
I am honored so many of you have recommended me to your friends and family and hopefully, I’ll be able to open my books back up.
OY VEY…PRICING, AGAIN!
OY VEY…PRICING, AGAIN!
You must aware now of the prices of EVERYTHING are going up. I can feel it already in my purchases. ALL the Beauty Supply places and Beauty industry companies have raised their prices on average 15% on literally everything from clips to color just this last month. My small business needs to remain nimble and responsive to these unforeseen changes.
Recently, just before all the current economic waves, I instituted price changes on hair services.
Unknowingly, after running year end numbers, I actually ended up making no change at all or often LOWERING my overall rates when I was trying to raise my prices to offset inflation, the rising industry prices, and still do the right thing legally/socially (ie. Gender discrimination pricing.)
Entrepreneurship demands that I master many areas of life and juggle them all with precision. Oy Vey…It’s all a learning curve as I transition into being a brick-n-mortar small business owner. It is said that “hindsight is 20/20.” Thank you for bearing with me….I am building the plane and flying it at the same time and I will make missteps from time to time.
WHAT AM I GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
- I am adjusting the prices of Hair products immediately to fall in line with the new prices. I have also brought in another line of hair products from a company called Eleven Australia. They are a 6/10 on the “natural scale” and have a great price point. They also work well! My most Natural line, OWAY, has raised it’s prices quite substantially. For the time being, I will still continue to stock my fave products from them. You can also order from their entire product line directly on my website, www.unifyhair.com if you want to. I am also looking into another brand that is VERY clean with no synthetic fragrances. It is called Nuema.
- I intend to continue with my current pricing model for Hair services until the end of March and then I am going to adjust the pricing of those services according to the inflation rate, our local market, and beauty industry price hikes. At that point I will have a better understanding of what a sustainable price for services will be for the rest of 2022.
UNIFY HAIR STUDIO 25% OFF REWARDS PROGRAM
- Many of you don’t know that I have a rewards program in place. You are automatically earning Reward Points for every hair service!
- So, when you buy a product and/or get your hair done, it will automatically be tracked and when you reach a certain number of points…you can trade them in for a 25% discount on more products, or hair services. Your choice!
- I am also going to go through all your CURRENT reward points (you HAVE been accumulating them whether you know it or not!) and let you know if you can use them for the 25% off. For a lot of you…that will be your next appointment!!
THE END
WOW. You made it to the end….congrats and thank you. All I can say now is THANK YOU for your ongoing and continued support….I LITERALLY would not be here without YOU…each one of YOU.
I’m Grateful beyond words and all I can really do as a thank you is create a beautiful space that feels peaceful, leaves you feeling better, and looking swankier than you walked in…right?
Thank you for being you!
October 2021 UPDATES!
Welcome to Fall on the central coast!
I like to joke that it’s my summer here in Los Osos 🙂
I Just want to express my deepest GRATITUDE to ALL of you for your huge hearts and support! I know it sounds cliché and you hear people say this all the time and IT IS TRUE! So, thank you for being my client and for being a light in this world. I literally would not able to own my own thriving business without you! Once the pandemic is more in the past I will throw y’all a party!
Just a few quick things to touch on…..
- Holiday Schedule
- New Pricing Reminder
- 2022 Schedule changes
- New Healing Studio update
Holiday Schedule
Most of you know that Oct/Nov/Dec are the busiest months of the whole year for me and consequently, I am 95% booked until January already!
If you do not have your regular and holiday appointments booked during these 3 months I would jump on that RIGHT AWAY!
If you are unable to get an Appointment for the dates you want, Jennifer, my scheduling Manager, will get you on the wait list and keep an eye on cancellations (yes, they happen!) Once you are on the list, she will call you with openings as they occur.
If you can only come in on specific dates we can put you on the waitlist my software has and it will automatically email you the moment a spot opens up on those dates as well! Let us know if that is of interest to you.
BOOKING and RESCHEDULING
Please call Jennifer to book any appointments or to make changes to your existing appointments. She returns calls/texts within 24-48 hours, Monday through Friday. Her contact info is at the end of this email. She is very committed to customer service and wants nothing more than to help you get an appointment! She and I are in constant communication throughout each day so I am always informed about all your needs.
It’s difficult for me to juggle working 6 days a week and get back to everyone that emails/texts/calls as well as the instant messages on all the social platforms! This doesn’t mean you can’t contact me directly, just please contact Jennifer first! It will streamline the booking process and leave me free to focus on doing great hair!
I will also turn on my online booking feature if that is an easier way for you to search for open dates and times. You can access this by going to my website www.unifyhairstudio.com and clicking the book 24/7 menu option at the top of any page.
Once you are in the studio, I generally have time myself to can book your next appointment as you are checking out. Happy to do it!
New Pricing Reminder
Just a reminder that my new prices went into effect on September 1st. They are listed here (down below), on my website, in-salon, and I am happy to email/text you a price list as well…just reach out to Jennifer and she will send it to you.
2022 Schedule Changes
In order to be of excellent service to my clients, manage my client load, and create thriving sustainability in my career, I will be making some long overdue scheduling changes in 2022.
The Good News is that these changes ultimately will create more flexibility in my scheduling and benefit clients in other ways as well. I intend to be actively involved for the next 10-15 years as a hairdresser in my Private Studio space.
I Am not going anywhere and I AM fully here for you!
My goal is, as of January 2022, I will be dropping back from a 60-70 hour week to a 40 hour work week. This is a long timing coming and I will better be able to accommodate cancellations, reschedules, holidays, etc…
To minimize any challenges in booking with me, if you can, i suggest booking your appointments 3-12 months out to secure all the spots that work for you. We can always move them around as events come up or changes need to be made…with my 40 hour work week, I will MUCH MORE EASILY be able to shift gears and reschedule within a quicker time frame than my current 6 days a week allows.
This change will possibly cause longer wait times for those clients that can’t schedule ahead and Jennifer and I will be diligent in trying to quickly get you in as soon my schedule allows. We will be maintaining a waitlist and cancellations always happen. You will most likely be able to snag one of those.
This Schedule change is waaay overdue and many of you have, FOR YEARS, counseled me to do this! Well, I am listening to my body, mental health, soul, and all of you…finally!
SO thank you for your support in this and your understanding that this will benefit us all in the long run.
In the beginning of instituting my new schedule…It will probably be a little bumpy for a time and all I ask is for patience, trust, and kindness as we
navigate this shift together!
It’s the season of change and as the kids say “I’m here for it!”
ORIGINAL FREQUENCY HEALING STUDIO
As many of you know….I am on the verge of opening my healing studio space in January of 2022 here in Los Osos. I am beyond excited to be able to offer a refuge of Peace and Calm in turbulent moments.
WEBSITE LINK:
Original Frequency Healing Studio
So many people in our local area and the world have been profoundly impacted by anxiety, depression, mental health issues, trauma, deep fatigue, grief, and overwhelm. The restorative practices I have honed over 30 years in the Healing Arts field have all come together in one space as an antidote of sorts to these times.
I will primarily be focusing on one-to-one private sessions and groups of 2-5 folks that currently live together. My main modalities for tuning down the nervous system, inducing deep calm, becoming grounded in the present moment, and living a more mindful existence will be:
Sound Healing AKA: Sound Baths
Meditative Tea Ceremony
Meditation Practice
Reiki Energy Healing
Anyone can book a session for just one experience or a combination of experiences…your choice!
I will be creating a website in the next few weeks where you can see all my available session times, descriptions, prices, and book for yourself or others. I will send out an email about that when it is up and running.

I no longer do on scalp bleach retouches due to the inevitable damage it causes, nor do I do full bleach all over services. I respect the hair and scalps of my clients too much to do these services.
AUGUST 2021 UPDATES!
New price list and updated Covid protocols plus….a little personal good news! I hope this Summer is allowing you to enjoy our beautiful central coast. I will try to keep this brief so you don’t have to read a novel like my last email. Lol…seriously, doing my best here!
I’ll be covering my new updated price list as well as updated Covid protocols and a little bit of good personal news.
NEW PRICING
One of the things that’s been floating around in my industry for the last few years has been gender neutral pricing. Basically the upshot is that’ll things being equal, a woman should not have to pay more than a man for the same service. Amirite?
California actually passed a law in 1995 making it illegal to do so. In the last few years in my industry, there has been a lot of back-and-forth discussion around this topic particularly in California hair salons and studios.
Now for those of you that know me well you’ll know that I am a champion of fairness, accountability, and well-being for all people. So in accordance with that, what I’ll be doing is creating a price list to be in compliance with California law and it will reflect gender neutral pricing for haircuts.
There will always be some people that fall outside of the norm in terms of hair length, hair density, and complexity of haircut, Etc…. And I’ll always communicate that to you when you’re sitting in my chair.
My new updated service prices go into effect September 1st, 2021.
If you have any questions or confusion about what your cut will cost I am more than happy to clarify that for you before your appointment or at the time of your appointment.
(NEW PRICE LIST at the bottom)
COVID PROTOCOLS
Let’s talk Covid! Funsies, eh?
If you’ve been tuning in you’ll have noticed that we’ve had an uptick in Covid cases across the country. California and SLO County being no exception. With all my communications to you throughout the pandemic, I’ve always aired on the side of safety, clarity, and appropriate timing.
This time will be no different… I feel that as a business and professional, I need to address the elephant in the room which is masks. Are we going to be wearing them again for any length of time? Do I need to wear it if I’m vaccinated? Etc….I do believe that this winter is going to bring back mask wearing for indoor activities.
Many cities and counties within California and across the USA have already begun enacting mask mandates once again for indoor spaces whether you are vaccinated or unvaccinated.
I do not know if San Luis County will back business owners up or if we are going to be left to our own devices to come up with our own plans. Either way I want to be ahead of the curve and as always, I must err on the side of safety, clarity, and the well-being of my clients.
To that end, whether you are vaccinated or unvaccinated, I’m going to ask that for the time being we all wear masks while you’re getting your hair done in my studio.
I see myself as the centerpoint of a beautiful spiderweb of clients and being in that position I can pass on illnesses from whatever clients I’ve been working with that week. I take that position of responsibility very seriously and with no fear I say let’s take a step back and get a little more “safety dance” going with our protocols once again while you’re in my chair.
However you personally feel about this decision just remember I’ll also be wearing my mask again for 60-70 hours a week. I understand it’s no picnic but I am not about to be cavalier with your well being, nor mine.
I’m happy to discuss options with you if this is something you just cannot do for personal reasons. Just remember…I can do a mean backyard haircut! LOL!! Been there, done that!
This policy starts effective August 6th. Thank you for being understanding and compassionate with me as I do what I feel is best at the moment for our community, and my business.
ORIGINAL FREQUENCY HEALING STUDIO
Now, onto my personal good news!
Again l, those of you that know me well will know that in years past, before the pandemic started, I had a thriving side business known as www.OriginalFrequency.com where I would travel all around California doing Sound Healing “Sound Baths”, Reiki trainings, Guided Meditations, and Meditative Tea Ceremonies. Along with that I also taught about creating tasty elixirs and superfood drinks made from medicinal mushrooms and herbs. NOT the “magic” kind of mushrooms, although…i think functional/medicinal mushrooms are magical all on their own!
I have always wanted to find a place to do a more private type of experience with these healing sessions. I found it! And it’s right in my own Los Osos neighborhood. In fact, it’s directly across from my hair studio just in the other building located literally 50 feet away!
I have signed a five-year lease on a private office space where I’ll be offering all my healing services for anywhere from 1 to 6 people at a time.
In the current ongoing changes and aftermath of this pandemic, I can see the need for LOTS of healing sessions. They help us come down off high alert and all the stress chemicals that have been flowing through our blood streams for months without end. We can’t go around allowing our psyches to take the brunt of “threat all around us” vibes! It just erodes all the goodness in our souls.
Things like that take a massive toll on our body/mind/spirit trinity. Sometimes we know it but don’t really know what to do about it. Over the past 3 decades of my spiritual training I have amalgamated all i have learned into a potent body of knowledge and I offer you my healing services as one small measure to help.
Each modality I facilitate is uniquely designed to INTEGRATE past hurts, grieve our losses, soothe our nervous system, reclaim our wholeness, calm our spirits, and uplift us into the JOY of the present moment.
When we are walking in our wholeness we make MUCH BETTER decisions for ourselves and the relationships in our lives.
I’ll be most have the healing space/sanctuary/sonic womb/ HAVEN to be ready to offer private sessions and possibly safe small group experiences in Mid-September sometime…stay tuned and much love!

JUNE 2021 UPDATES!
It’s been a couple months since
I have sent out an update and with the re-opening of California (as of TODAY…June 15th), I thought it would be a good idea to touch base and fill you in on changes, updates, and current protocols.
This update is going to encompass a lot of important info. and it’s wordy…BUT, I would like you to read it in it’s entirety so you stay fully informed.
Grab some tea and let’s dive in shall we?
I want to first and foremost say THANK YOU to the depths of my heart for your warm outpouring of support, gifts, and cheerleading as I transition to owning my own hair studio…now named UNIFY HAIR STUDIO. Woo who! Y’all have been amazing and I cherish your business, friendships, and CARE. ESPECIALLY over this last 15 months…FOR REALS!
Guess what? Nobody prepared us to deal with the experiences stemming from the repeated closures over 2020 and literally into 2021.
Arguably, I didn’t sit around during the closures. That would have been nice, Lol! I WAS hustling to keep my career alive and doing hair outside the salon, in backyards, on porches, with green eggs and ham as well as delivering color kits ( and toilet paper!) all over the county.
So, sitting around…yeah, no. LOTS of my friends and colleagues across many industries were HUSTLING to keep afloat.
That said…I was able to relax some of the days and go for long drives, walks, and create a garden. I spent what free time I had leading daily morning meditations on FB LIVE and facilitating my virtual Sound Healing events at night for people all over the world to help with people’s stress and anxiety.
Click link below to see my sound healing youtube channel!
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqqKHEQV8fPojggG2ItVwOw/videos
Flash forward to NOW and I’m in my own private studio (a freaking miracle!) and I am once again working close to 70 hours a week…and 6-7 days a week. This came about from a number of converging “perfect storm” events that are directly linked to the closures, vaccine accessibility, my location change, desperate new and current clients, and my own client centered approach to my business.
I underestimated what my successful return to being fully open would look like! It’s like the floodgates were opened and I’m drinking water from a firehose!
What a first world problem, right?
I’m EXTREMELY GRATEFUL that whatever you call the Divine (or not)…that it has gifted me with an abundance of clients, and a new studio. Truly you are all generous, caring, and feel like personal heroes to me.
It’s hard baked into my personal working goal/philosophy that one’s clients, customers, and ANYONE frequenting your business is GOLD. YOU are the only reason I am able to do what I do and I KNOW IT!
Do I mess up and miss that goal? Sure I do…and I get up, dust off, and try again…I will always aim for excellence.
I am committed to continuing to bring all my many talents to bear in order to upgrade your experience in my chair as much as I can…hopefully, many of you feel this way simply by being in my new studio! I’ve put literal blood, sweat, prayers, and tears into its creation and I hope it shows.
One place that has been especially challenging has been scheduling. Have you noticed? Lol! I’m truly sorry if you have felt the impact of this…
I could not have foreseen the absolute deluge of clients, new and current, that would need to be seen upon reopening. I mean, I figured it would be bananas for a bit but nothing like being fully booked 95% for 12-14 weeks out. Like booked SOLID from 8am-7pm six days a week (often 7) EVERYDAY for months. How amazing right!?
I’m a hardy individual with lots of energy and can take A LOT of pressure…and i am also noticing that maintaining this pace and schedule is becoming detrimental to my health and well being.
To go from the prolonged stress of seeing the world crumble, trying to keep my business afloat, stay healthy, maintain relationships, having clients and loved ones die, and then go straight into a “pedal to the metal” schedule is just more than one person can reasonably sustain.
Jennifer (my off site scheduling partner/ Hero/ Wonder Woman) has been pointing this out to me for months. I’m a hard nut to crack! I LITERALLY could not have sailed the seas of this last 16 months without her expert help, advice, skill, brains, and SUPPORT! Please give her a BIG round of applause. She makes everything behind the scenes run smoothly so I can focus on my Craft!
There are many unseen pitfalls that this deluge has created and while I’m absolutely grateful and thank my lucky stars everyday…..it’s still a problem that has to be addressed and solved at the end of the day.
So…without going into “the problems” much I’ll just say that if 2020 has shown us anything…it’s that our time with loved ones and life as well as our energy levels and mental health….is 100% PRECIOUS and irreplaceable.
Short bursts of this kind of schedule is fine…like Holiday Season…it’s an intense 2 month burst of BUSY. What I’m doing now? Unsustainable.
Here’s the answer as far as Jennifer and I can tell:
1. I MUST build in flex days each month to be able to accommodate rescheduling appointments in a timely manner without scheduling on my days off
2. I need to be selective about taking on new clients
3. I will be adjusting my prices to reflect my education, experience, and care (full “menu” with prices below)
4. I will be working a more “kind to self” schedule that will include working less days per week, actual regular days off, a vacation, and “just because” extra days off from time to time which in turn will keep me very inspired, rested, happy, and sane!
5. We will be creating a cancellation wait list and a new client wait list
CH…CH…CH…CHANGES!
EVERYTHING I do in my business is client centered….trust me when I say….I think of EACH of you EVERYDAY.
These are my first steps and of course I’ll not get it right all the time. This schedule and work reframe are my attempt at a more unified and congruent life!
With all that in place…I will be MORE available to be present in all areas of my life including and especially when I’m “behind the chair.
The changes listed above can’t be installed all at once since I’m already locked into my currently fully booked schedule until around the first week of September. BUT…all the changes should be fully integrated by September 9th.
It WILL be advantageous to schedule multiple appointments.
I have a few yearly booked clients as well!
It’s no shock to know that I’m in high demand and by creating wiggle room days and a cancellation wait list this will allow me to better accommodate more spontaneous booking, select new clients, and anyone needing to reschedule appointments as events in your life show up.
As these changes become reality and maybe it’s not your cup of tea, I am also open to recommend a couple key stylists in our Central Coast area if you need to see another person for your hair needs for any reason at all. No awkwardness in that! I am a realist!
IMPORTANT UPDATES
My vacation is from September 10th-15th.
MY NEW SCHEDULE of 4-5 days a week IS EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1st
AS OF JULY 1ST my landlords have decided to have SUNDAYS be a “closed for business” day on the property.
So, no more just seeing a few clients here and there on Sundays anymore. End of an era, LOL!Additional custom color and treatment services range from $30-50
Most hair care products are $16-$28. Average is $25 per product.
Generally, haircolor and a haircut appointment runs $130-195
*Not all cuts are workable as dry cuts
*****************************************
I am absolutely open to any discussion you might need to have around budget, schedule, and pricing. I understand that budgets and schedules fluctuate and I’m mindful and
flexible when and where I can be.
I’ll endeavor to tell you BEFORE your services what the final cost will be…nobody likes surprises at checkout time. I’ll do my best to offer options as well during our consultations. If we are mid service and I think the price will change, I’ll let ya know.
****************************************
I know that throught the last 16 months i have strived to stay in transparency and communication with all my clients about the safety measures I followed in biz and personal life to keep all my clients as safe and healthy as one person can do.
We have entered a new, and hopefully safer, more consistent, phase in CA.
Today, JUNE 15th, marks the re-opening of CA with most capacity restrictions lifted and mask mandates lifted for those that are fully vaccinated.
You are now welcome to come into the studio without your mask.
HOLY COW!!
If you want to wear a mask inside the studio still…have at it! I want everyone to feel comfortable. I am happy to wear one too if you are wearing a mask.
I will be going by the Honour system from now on, meaning…I TRUST YOU as an adult to stay smart, engaged, and proactive in keeping yourself rested, healthy, joyful, Immune system centered, and educated! I appreciate you respecting my position as the centerpoint of A LOT of people and if you feel under the weather…Reschedule. It’s been soooo nice to not have caught a cold or the flu this last year, isn’t it?
Each of you approaches HEALTH in your own ways and I Honour all of you. If you see me wearing a mask from time to time…please respect my journey to transitioning from wearing it daily for 10-12 hours a day for the last 16 months!! It’s gonna take me TIME to relax and feel comfortable with the new changes. I TRUST that our county has shown great progress and it will stay that way!

JANUARY 2021 UPDATES
NEW YEAR OF 2021 CHANGES AND UPDATES!!!
This is most likely the most important email I have sent this year! Wait…we are only 5 days in! HA, HA! Thought I would start with humour! But, honestly…this email IS REALLY IMPORTANT and I appreciate you reading every word! From my heart to your heart…Thank you and May you ever Prosper and be treated kindly as you walk through this next year.
LET’S DIVE IN SHALL WE?
I think we can all agree that 2020 has asked more of us all than we could ever have envisioned.
It’s been a painful and challenging year for most of the world. It’s also had its quiet and beautiful moments too. It’s humbled me and brought self care to the forefront of our lives.
I know that these repeated closures have tested all of us in ways that we never thought possible…I’m still trying to make house calls, drop off hair color kits, and juggle calls rescheduling everyone affected by this latest closure notice.
It’s an ever moving puzzle to say the least!
You have ALL Been troopers and SOOOOO very patient with me as I have rescheduled and rescheduled you over and over….it’s the most challenging aspect to all this and I am doing my best to make sure we reach out to each and everyone of you. No client left behind!
I am eternally grateful for all the well wishes, kind words, gifts, and thoughts you have all expressed to me through these last 10 months. I am humbled.
As we roll into this pivotal year of 2021 we will continue to be asked to stay flexible and patient. In the spirit of that…I have made a very courageous choice and leap of faith to follow my heart.
*************************************************************
Many of you know I have always wanted to create a more holistic and “private” hair experience for my clients.
On New Year’s Eve, I was unexpectedly but miraculously offered to share a local hair studio space that will foster exactly that vision without me having to create a studio salon from scratch! I looked deep into my heart and said “Yes!” It came in such a way that I can’t say no..this Gift has the handprint of Grace written all over it.
I’ll be able to offer an even more relaxed, private, quieter, and balanced environment so my focus can be 100% on the well-being of all my clients and not on salon distractions!
I think that as we move into 2021 that these created places of Peace and self care are going to be even more important in our lives. My deepest hope is to offer you an invitation to let me create that space for you. I want to make 2021 brighter for each and every one of you the best way I know how!
My shared suite mate and I will be working separate days so when you come see me, we will have the place all to ourselves. Parking is always available, the mountain views are lovely, you can choose your own music, and I’ll be able to offer LOWER prices too! Wait what??? True 🙂
Finally, In light of the recent hygiene protocol changes in my industry, this space…with French doors that open wide and less people inside affords even more controlled safety, well being, and comfort getting your hair done than ever before.
What’s the catch?! Well…glad you asked. It’s located 12 miles from downtown SLO in Balmy Los Osos! I know, I know….I’m asking you to embrace another change after a year of too much change!
Please trust that this move will absolutely benefit your overall experience and I invite you to join me in this next adventure. I mean…there IS a drive-thru Starbucks across the street 🙂
I know it’s a big ask and I’m aware that it can seem out of the way but I’ve done the drive 2X a day for 22 years! It’s gorgeous, got ever changing colors on the hills, and you will be at the studio before you know it. Again…9-12 miles from SLO!
The Salon space is called Ursa Major named after The Great Mother Bear Constellation that contains stars that line up to point to Polaris, The North Star!
I’m excited and looking forward to showing you the new space where I’ll be happily working to create a sanctuary and haven from stress for YOU! Check out the studio website: https://www.ursamajor-hair.com/about
PHEW!! THAT was really scary to share and a relief at the same time. The courage to follow that Inner Voice of Grace and go in the direction of True North is always daunting. I truly hope you will join me in celebration of being able to offer you something special and even MORE with a few extra minutes drive.
Hope is on the horizon!
The address is 2280 Sunset Drive, Los Osos. When you are coming into town, It’s a left hand turn off Los Osos Valley road one block past the post office on the left.
The salon sits 1/2 block on the right in a small, charming, business park next to a modern looking BIG red building. It’s Hard to miss! Parking spots are available in the lot and in front of the business.
I’ll be in the new Studio starting February 1st and of course, I’ll be contacting each one of you to make sure it all goes smoothly. Right now, I’m still seeing many people for home hair care visits during this recent shutdown.
I’m in the process of contacting directly anyone that had/has appointments in January that have been disrupted due to the closures to discuss options for rescheduling before i am in my new space.
Hopefully, I can start earlier in the new space than 2/1 if the shutdown gets lifted…I already have keys!
All appointments starting February 1st will be at the new place!
All appointments starting February 1st are going to be
in-salon, safe and calm.
Many of you have asked how you can help me beyond the normal ways…Well, you can order directly from my Product Partner page with the Organic natural Line that I love.
They have all kinds of fun things beyond shampoo and I get a 30% comiision paid to me for every purchase! Feel free to click the link below and support me in this way if you feel so moved. Thank you!

DECEMBER 2020 Closure UPDATE!!
Good gosh…where do I start? How about Happy Holidays…THAT sounds weird, doesn’t it?
All I know is that I Am eternally grateful to all of you for going on the rollercoaster journey of this last year WITH me. Like..really, really, grateful.
I KNOW it has been a big ask on my part everytime this year i have had to scrap all the appointments i have booked and start over with rescheduling everyone.
Here we are in closure #3 in 10 months!
It’s just a big mess….BUT, I know how to clean it up, what tools i need, the willingness, and especially the help from Jennifer, my scheduler!
So, THANK YOU. Truly, madly, deeply! We really can only do this TOGETHER and do it in KINDNESS.
Closure and rebooking info!!
Let’s go over the actual understanding of the mechanics of the closure first so we are all on the same page!
The Regional Stay Home Order, announced December 3, 2020, will go into effect within 24 hours in regions with less than 15% ICU availability. It prohibits private gatherings of any size, closes sector operations except for critical infrastructure and retail, and requires 100% masking and physical distancing in all others.
The order will remain in effect for at least 3 weeks and, after that period, will be lifted when a region’s projected ICU capacity meets or exceeds 15%. This will be assessed on a weekly basis after the initial 3 week period.
::NEWEST UPDATE::
Community members should prepare now for the State’s Regional Stay at Home Order to take effect on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 11:59 p.m. The ICU capacity for the Southern California region, which includes San Luis Obispo County, fell below the State’s 15% trigger Friday evening.

*************************************************************
READ THIS PART IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE! HA HA!
Obviously, I am asking for a bit more patience again as we rework the schedule and contact anyone who is effected. I will be trying to do as many home visits as i can outside in people’s backyards or on the patios. I will be doing a limited number of these visits for many reasons and we will contact each and every one of you, which takes time, so have no fear that we won’t reach out. WE WILL…it just takes us days to get to everyone. We will be going in order of how you are all booked into my schedule. We are going to start making phone calls DECEMBER 7TH!
If you have an appointment booked for AFTER January 1st…I am keeping them exactly where they are!! If you tend to have mutliple appointments on the books….we will have to rework them into a new sequence of appointments most likely…it will be a case by case basis!
One of the VERY hard and unknown things about this is the rescheduling. I really want to avoid rebooking everyone and then the closure is extended by another week…thereby forcing me to cancel that entire week and rebook AGAIN!!
At that point, Where to put everyone becomes an issue. I want to avoid working 7 days a week 10 hours a day…that might be inevitable for a little while but it’s unsustainable and unhealthy for me long term.
I WILL DO MY BEST to roll with the changes and i ask that you offer the same flexibility…these are not normal times so getting exactly what you want, when you want it…like days of old, may not always happen. Please be understanding and know that for those of us in industries that directly serve the public we are being stretched beyond what we can humanly accomplish and still function as a thriving business during these unprecedented times.
I am going to be trusting and rebooking just after the 3 weeks is up…so, that makes it late december to literally the first week of 2021. Good lord. Please be patient again with us as we call at least a hundred people and that alone takes days to accomplish even if everything is easy and brief.
I am also going to be filling you all in on all the upcoming changes and updates as we approach a New Year. I know that there will be challenges and opportunities for growth in the coming year for all of us and I will endeavor to meet them with you as smoothly as possible and with professionalism, knowledge, and CARE!
Why are some salons open during the closure?
During the closures each business owner has to make their own decisions about compliance. The fact that SLO county is lumped in with Southern California and their statistics for this shutdown makes our Hospital/ICU numbers (which are low) irrelevant and some businesses just can’t close one more time or they face permanent closure.
I have a diverse clientele and I am choosing to follow the closure and not see clients in the salon during the shutdown timeframe. That choice will make some of you happy, or frustrated, and others defeated. Some will stand behind my choice and some won’t.
I am riding the line that makes the least number of people upset with me and keeps my clients feeling comfortable with my choices.
You WILL see and hear of various businesses choosing not to close for 3 weeks. I understand 100% why they would choose that in light of our county’s ICU numbers being so low and hopefully staying low.
Stay strong and choose your battles wisely!
Price Adjustments for 2021

Schedule changes going into effect for 2021
This year has shown me that I need to choose wiser, practice self care, and lead by example. I am playing around with different schedules that will allow me to offer all clients a mix of morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours without working 60 hours a week! Amazing, eh?
If you tend to see me anywhere from every 3-12 weeks…booking multiple
appointments ahead will be highly advised. A lot of you already do that and it’s a fabulous way to get the exact day and time you want.
Remember, the best way to make an appointment or rebook is to text Jennifer (my booking manager) or I directly!
CANCELLING AND RESCHEDULING
Life happens, right? Needing to reschedule your appointments will obviously happen from time to time. If something comes up on your end…please try to give me at least 72 hours as heads up so I can rebook the spot! I will do my absolute best to get you back into my schedule within 3-10 days. It may be a couple weeks before you can get back in…not always, but in high demand times of the year that is almost inevitable!
I will always do my best to accomodate all changes that occur!

ADDING A NEW COLOUR LINE!
Many of you know that I am committed to being as all natural, clean, organic, and healthy with ALL my choices for hair products. Lately I have been exploring adding another colour line called Original and Mineral that lives in that same ethical space. So far…I LOVE IT!
From Original & Mineral:
“The world of hair is changing, and low-chemical and natural technology is leading the way.
Our mission is to provide the cleanest professional colour in the world which has led us to a progressive new colouring approach. Molecular Blend Technology (MBT) which pre-links colour pigments that are supported by two nourishing hero complexes giving incredible vibrancy, shine, longevity and protection to coloured hair. We call it O&M CØR.color. And of course – as the name suggests – it stays true to our core promise: zero ammonia, PPD or resorcinol.”
So far I am happy with the results! I still will be using the Colour Line out of Italy called Oway…which also is Natural, full of organic ingredients, and great for hair health while colouring. I am just choosing to expand on my current choices! Options, people, Options!!

Parking Reminders
Many of you have wondered if you can park in the spaces that are marked “20 minute” parking. Absolutely. I park in them all day as do my co-workers and the owners of the plaza businesses! They are only there as a city requirement and no one checks them. EVER.
So, go crazy…Park there for your whole appointment! A little known secret when the parking lot seems full….there’s overflow parking in a lower parking lot! Feel free to park there!
THANK YOU FOR BEING MY FRIENDS, CLIENTS, AND JUST PLAIN AWESOME PEOPLE!
I am in awe of our community and I am BLESSED to know you all…..
See You soon in a backyard near you!

The Rewards Points Program
Many of you know how altruistic I am and My rewards points program was no exception! Some of you may not even know that you have, and will continue to have, points being accrued for every service you have done from cuts to color and any purchase of an OWAY brand product.
It was VERY generous and in doing my taxes for 2019 and going over the books from last year it’s apparent that the current program was unsustainable to stay in business long term! Yikes!
Moving forward, and starting right now…everyone will still accrue points towards the new program. The use of points is this:
1. You will gain points for every hair service & for OWAY products only.
2. Each service and OWAY product is worth a certain number of points.
3. When you hit the number of points that a service is worth you will receive 30% off the service.
You can save points for later, use for gifts to family or friends, and use for yourself.
RETAIL PRODUCTS
I am now retailing my Fave OWAY brand products IN THE SALON!
I have some shelving at the front of the salon and I am super in love with some of their products that I now will be carrying.
If you prefer to shop online and support me by helping me gain the 30% commission…here is the link:

New Hours
I will be working a total of 4-5 days a week, (a combo of weekdays, weeknights/weekends)
and about 30-40 hours per week.
The days of the 60/70 hrs a week and 6-7 days a week schedule I have done for many years is over.
My time spent meditating in the “quarantine zone” has showed me that it’s time for a New Era!
Price Adjustments
Effective Sept. 1st, there will be a $4 credit card charge fee if you want to use a credit card to process your payments. Feel free to use Cash, Check, Paypal, or Venmo instead of a card. If you don’t know how to use Venmo/Paypal…I can help you get that set up!
I will be posting all my services and Prices on my website by October 1st.
I am all for open communication around finances and I am sensitive to different budgets…we just need to talk about it!Nobody likes surprises when they are checking out.
Beginning on Nov.1st, 2020 I will be adjusting my prices. I will do my best to clearly communicate my prices and the costs involved with your appointments as well as “the why.”
I am choosing to face this unknown and uncharted time ahead of us with Strength, Compassion, and Adaptability…Join me?
I can’t wait to see you again, get you a cup of tea, do good hair, and sit for a spell and catch up! Thank you for all your support over this time away as I have risen to meet the moment the best ways I know how. I am so VERY GRATEFUL that you have waited and waited, and then waited some more to be able to get in to “dress up your Do’!” I will see you soon and boy, are we all going to have so much to talk about!
PEACE and GOOD HAIR days to you till I see you again.
AUGUST 25th Outdoor services UPDATE:
Good morning! It’s been awhile since my last update and I thought that it’s a good time to touch base!
As always…I have a lot to say, so take your time reading this!! I have no superpowers of brevity, obviously!
As of today, Salons and the personal care industry in California (no other state) are still required to remain closed if they are on the state’s County Watchlist (SLO county is on the watchlist) and are only allowed to do outside services within certain guidelines.
TRUST ME…THE MOMENT WE CAN REOPEN, WE WILL BE CONNECTING WITH EVERY ONE OF YOU RIGHT AWAY!!!
I am also in the dark about how long this will last…my guess is another month! Don’t hold me to it though…it’s 2020 so…ya know!
You may hear of Salons doing services “speakeasy” style and quietly servicing their guests through the back door so to speak. You may hear of salons defying the State order and fully opening to service their communities safely. You may hear that Salons have chosen NOT to service their clients outside in unpredictable conditions.
You may see and hear of salons working outside in unpredictable conditions. (👋🏾 Me…that’s me!)
It’s all a choice and I am fully in support of my fellow business owners doing whatever they can SAFELY do to keep their businesses from failing and service their guests!
I personally know 4 salon owners in CA that have permanently closed in the last 30 days because they can no longer afford to pay a lease on an empty space with no revenue coming in.
At this time, I have chosen not place my license and business at risk by going against the restrictions. I am doing my best to assist my clients through this time by working in my “outside station” that I build each day I work.
I won’t go into the challenges with this type of experience on my finances, mental health, and my clients….but let’s say I am eagerly anticipating being able to open for inside services as soon as I can “legally” do so.
The health departments of various counties as well as the state board of cosmetology have begun issuing citations, tickets, and cease & desist orders to personal care businesses statewide.
The actual Health department violation is a PUBLIC NUISANCE ticket. Imagine that…serving our local communities SAFELY is now considered a Nuisance.
Hmmm 🤨 (did ya catch how I feel about that?)
Moving forward, I am doing my very best under these conditions to safely operate my business and keep an income stream. I am seeing clients outside my salon and many of you have seen me and many of you are “on the books” right now.
Jennifer, my scheduling manager, and I are working everyday to make phones calls, texts, and leave messages to see what we can do for you to meet your hair needs while remaining in compliance with the State order.
ONGOING SCHEDULING
Scheduling, as you can imagine, is very tricky and yet we are up to the task! I am currently booking from today until September 15th. It’s about 95% full already and I work very different days/hours than when I am IN-salon and so we are reworking every clients current and future appointments into the new booking template.
This takes a lot of effort and may change what days I normally see you! Even though I am “working” some of you will most likely still wait longer than you feel is “normal” (reminder-life is not normal right now!) but I am only 1 person working under very restrictive guidelines and there are only so many days in a week! I am, like everyone else, juggling my own health and safety on all levels.
I can only book out so far in order to maintain the integrity of the scheduling process. I will release new dates for booking past the 15th on September 1st.
I release about 3-5 days at a time due to the ever changing nature of the situation. I have to be ready to reopen at a moments notice and I would like to avoid having to cancel anyone in order to rework everyone’s appointments yet again once we open!
At this time, I am allowed to only cut hair outside. I have other coloring options for my color clients.
Please text or call Jennifer (contact info below)to find out what all the options are and how I can make this easier on you!
I feel compelled to remind us all that we are not in a “business as usual” mode and so flexibility, understanding, and compassion for what me and my fellow hairstylists are going through is asked of you. I will, in turn, offer you to do my very best, stay positive, and stay communicative through all this!
I am deeply grateful for those of you that are willing to allow me to continue doing your hair in the ways that I can for now and without your support…I’d be a right mess! I WANT to work for my own sanity…I AM here for you and I bow to your beautiful souls and inner nature of goodness!
Take care and PLEASE REACH OUT if you need ANYTHING!! I have online and personal delivery retail options as well if you are running low on hair products.

JULY 26th Outdoor services UPDATE:
Good day y’all! Well…I have been going back and forth on the issue of salon closures 2.0 and the only option available to do hair…outside hair services. Regardless of how unprofessional it seems to me, I can’t and won’t endure another month or more of my business and YOU being so impacted by this.
For those of you that were able to sneak into the 30 day window I was open, you know how safe and sanitary the salon has been. Plexiglass barriers, temp checks, hand washing galore, masks on everyone, hand sanitizer everywhere, nuclear level virucide spray twice per client on all my tools and personal space, same for the shampoo bowls/chair after each use, and touch less check out (if desired)! We all take the health of staff and clients seriously. Enough said.
Let’s talk outside services.
What CAN I do outside?
I can cut hair (no major makeovers please!) I can use a spray bottle to wet the hair if needed and of course I can always do dry cuts. I can do a deep conditioning treatment for you afterwards that you can go home and rinse out as well. Take me up on that…not enough of you do this at home. It makes a difference in the health of your hair!
Will styling be available after the cut? Running electricity to the outside of the salon is a tricky affair and right now I’m leaning away from that as an option…let’s go Au Naturel and air dry for now…lean into it!
Retail Sales
I’m proud to announce that I have invested in quite a bit of OWAY organics hair products and they will be available for sale as well as the Davines line and the Eleven line. I’m happy to help you find the right price point and right product for your hair!
Can I color?
We are not allowed to have clients in the salon to shampoo, rinse, or do any services that require use of the establishment. So, no color. I’m not keen on doing color and then you go home to wash it out. My liability insurance actually will not cover me doing hair outside much less in your home! What if you got into a fender bender on the way home or the color somehow got into your eyes and something terrible happened? I can’t endanger YOU, anyone else, or my business that way. Have I done this over my career? Yes, and it makes me stressed and nervous every time. I’m stressed enough right now…let’s not add to it, M’ kay?
What can you expect the service to look like?
A chair in front of the salon, small, but full length mirror, my clean tools in a box. Me. You. Let’s do this 🙂 Masked up, sanitized, out of the direct sun, and laughter! What are the challenges?WIND! Temperature fluctuations, sunlight, no blow dry styling per se, and probably things I can’t control or foresee! Sounds fun…I’m game if you are!
Cost?
After much thought and talking to other hairstylists in the area….I will be charging less for the outside services experience….I can’t square my normal prices (which modestly go up in October) with such a reduced experience. I know it’s no fault of mine but I have to be able to sleep at night! So, my outside cut prices will be:
Women-$50
Men-$35
How to book?
If you feel like you are up for the adventure please call/text (best) Jennifer, my scheduling manager (info below) on weekdays only and she will get everyone booked in correctly.
I’ll be working quite limited hours/days doing this so we will ALL be in this together being as flexible and understanding as possible. I’ll try to have a reasonable range of hours and days I’m working. You can always reach out to me as well if more than 24 hours goes by without a return call from Jennifer.
We want to make this as easy as possible and as professional as it can be, given the odd and weird world we now are traveling through. I’m here for you as much as the State Board of Cosmetology and CA will let me be! I can’t wait to be able to have my full career and SAFE business back as soon as possible. Please come see me…I truly miss all of you!

JULY 16th UPDATE:
GOOD MORNING
Deja Vu….round 2!
I am sure by now you have heard…SLO county has closed all salons for an unspecified amount of time again. UGH.
I am going to have to get creative to save my business and I am asking, once again, for patience, compassion, and understanding as we ALL navigate the changing landscapes from week to week, month to month.
Sadly, I think we are looking at the near future of business now. Flexibility will be the Key to sustainability and Success.
HOME VISITS AND OUTSIDE SERVICES?
Basically, to keep everything flowing as normal, I would be visiting 3-4 people day for 2 hours at a time in an uncontrolled, unlicensed, and uninsured environment day after day.
Even just seeing 1 person per day adds up to dozens of exposures in environments that do not conform to State Board of cosmetology guidelines for sanitation. I would be going from home to home in order to make this happen. Therefore, I become the “wild card” vector between all my clients.
After speaking to some of my MD clients and giving this thought…I have to err on the side of safety, health, and caution as a business professional with a good reputation in a small town.
This morning, the State Board of cosmetology has once again clarified that if any salon or stylist is operating outside their established business location or in a home they will be pursuing “revokation” of our licenses. If I’m found to be doing that in any capacity i will be subject to an experience of my own making and I will not do it. I care too much about my clients and my livelihood to risk so much!
It might not be what you or I want to hear…but, I will not be traveling to multiple homes to do hair nor will I be operating outside my salon doing “sidewalk” haircuts!
WHAT’S NEXT?
It’s with a heavy heart that I’m basically going to shut down again for the time period of the order. It’s nothing I want to do nor anticipated happening so soon. But…life is made of curveballs and how we meet those twists and turns of fate determine our character and honour. Jennifer and I will be reaching out to all of those clients that will be affected and getting you into the calendar after the shutdown is over!
It’s tricky though…in order for the order to be lifted, SLO county has to FIRST have their cases per 100,000 come UNDER the threshold of 100 cases. How long that will take is not in my crystal ball today! Although, I do have some LOVELY crystal balls in my house 🙂 THEN, we have to STAY UNDER that for a 14 day period before we can re-open.
Can you see the conundrum? When do create a theoretical re-open date to reschedule into? Well, I am going to assume that it takes a week to get our numbers down (not a scientific method!) and then add the 14 days to it..so, three weeks is the MINIMUM I think for re-open. That is THURSDAY, AUGUST 6th.
If my calculations are thwarted by the virus and number of cases RISING, then that pushes back everything and we begin the process of canceling and rescheduling all over again! It’s stressful for everyone and i want to MINIMIZE the stress not create more.
That said….JENNIFER AND I WILL WAIT FOR 1 WEEK BEFORE WE MAKE CALLS TO RESCHEDULE IN ORDER TO SEE WHICH WAY THE CASES GO…THERE WILL BE A PRESS CONFERENCE FROM THE CITY OF SLO AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 23RD…I will wait till that day to see the results of a week of being shut down before I make the call to begin rescheduling.
I will always communicate to you when I know the next steps with clarity and purpose! Keep the faith!
To be clear…we will begin the process of calls to everyone once we hear the news from july 23rd…so expect another email and text from me on July 24th.
Hopefully we can begin to actually begin to rebook on that day for 2 weeks later!
I am suspending online booking for the time being to avoid any sticky issues!
I will be opening up lots of extra days and expanding my work hours after the shut down to create as little disruption as possible and to get as many of you into the salon as I can. NOTHING about any of this is easy or comfortable. BUT…we RISE TOGETHER!
I can’t do this alone and I hope you are with me in this…I understand if my approach and decisions are not your cup of tea and at the end of the day…I need to face my own life and be willing to know that I acted with INTEGRITY and HONOUR.
Let’s all meet this with patience, compassion, and kindness! Thank you my friends and clients 💗

JULY 2nd UPDATE:
As I begin contemplating the start of my 4th week back into the salon, I am filled with thankfulness that you are all willing to come back! I know how hard it is to still wait after months of waiting and I am really pleased that so far I have been met with patience, understanding and gratitude as well.
As you can imagine, I am swamped as is every hairdresser and salon I know all over the world! I am obviously just one person doing my best to see close to 200 hundred people in as fast a timeframe as I can muster without backtracking into overwork! It’s an unprecedented event for us all and it’s through the Power of Kindness that we shall move carefully through this time together.
I AM GRATEFUL!
Let’s talk Hair!
Now that I have a few weeks under my belt I am seeing some hair trends 🙂
The first, is that everyone is taking me longer to complete due to catching up with each other, overgrown styles, long hair, lots of regrowth, faded color, and makeovers/corrections. I expected this! Know that you will be spending more time in the chair than usual due to this…plan accordingly. I am offering cold water in bottles but no food is allowed in the salon.
I padded each person’s appointment times for sanitation and other reasons…therefore, in contrast to just 3 months ago I am seeing less clients each day/week/month for the time being. That is what is contributing to the wait for some of you…I am seeing 1/3 less clients in the same time frame as before.
We will all get through this moment and get back on track in due time…it’s looking like Mid-late August is when I will have seen about 90% of my entire client base…Phew!
Let’s talk Cancellations!
I get cancellations from time to time and I am trying to offer those to people that are patiently waiting! I want to maximize my time in the salon and move people up. If YOU have to cancel please try to give me as much heads up as possible in order to fill that spot, especially right now when I am trying to book people into each week very efficiently so wait times aren’t totally ridiculous!
If you do end up canceling, getting you back in within a day or two may not be possible. I will try but it’s gonna be a challenge…just sayin’ 🙂 I advise keeping your current appointments with me unless it’s just unavoidable.
Let’s Talk Money!
Moving forward…and to stay transparent, open, clear, and profitable I will be maximizing my time in the chair, working less, and raising my cut/color prices on September 1st. I will create a full service menu for you to see and be fully informed about what each service will cost so that you are not in the dark about pricing. I will have this for you by August 1st in paper, web, and email formats! I want you to always feel very open about talking about your budgets for hair with me…I can always work within your budget AND….that often means adjusting the results you want as well. As author, Marie Forleo says, “Everything is Figureoutable!“
Let’s talk schedule!
Having had close to 3 months to sit and ponder my navel in my living room, like so many of us, I was able to review the last few years of doing hair and honestly, my whole career! To be honest, I have not had what one might call a healthy work/life balance and many of you amazing souls have pointed that out very lovingly over the years. THANK YOU!
Again, turning 50 over the “break”, and pondering my work/life balance for 3 months has led to inevitable changes as you can imagine. Basically, I will be moving to a 4-day work week starting Aug. 1st. Will that be set in stone?
Yes and No. I will make adjustments here and there but for the most part, I am sticking to that schedule. I will ABSOLUTELY use my days off to reschedule clients if I cancel on you for any reason.
1. Less hours means I will be possibly seeing less clients which means that I will need to focus on maximization of time and cost. I OFTEN gab waaaayy too long before i even begin doing your hair…a consult is one thing…a monologue about what I have been up to, is another thing! So, please do not take it personally if I focus on hair talk in the first few minutes you are in my chair…we can catch up while I am doing your hair.
2. I will also be more diligent about asking you to cancel in an appropriate timeframe…life happens and unexpected things come up…that I understand. It will be best to keep your appointments as we schedule them if you can…a 48-72 hour heads up is appreciated for any changes.
3. Lastly, many of you do this already, but it would be wise if you come in anywhere between 3-8 weeks, to book out your appointments at least 2-3X in the future if you like certain times/days to be “your” time in the salon.
I am excited to be back in the salon and doing what I love and in order to do that with joy in my heart, full attention on YOU, and my Craft shining…I am listening to my mentors, biz coaches, friends, clients and loved ones and creating a Life I love and Business I am proud of as we navigate these strange days. I Am at your service 🙂
To schedule or change your appointments…please contact my scheduling assistant first before reaching out directly to me..if your changes are same day…feel free to text me directly!
Contacts are below.
Masks, Masks, Masks!
You have all done so well wearing masks in the salon and I remain in my commitment to wear one as well.
I wore a face shield only for a hot second (well…48 hours) and just felt like it was not protective enough to you or I, and after double checking this gut feeling with a couple of my clients that work in the local ICU’S…I wear a mask while I am at work.
My body has adjusted now and it’s a non-issue for me to wear it thankfully. Please bear with the protocols that are FOR YOU to feel super safe in my chair and in our salon…we take this seriously as professionals and as cases rise in our beloved county…you can bet that I am going to be ever vigilant and diligent on following all the State Board, State and local Gov’t. mandates. I have a vested interest in doing this for many reasons, the least of which is my Hubby at home has 4 hearts stents and I am a fierce protector of those in my charge! THAT includes YOU!!!
So THANK YOU for everything and I will see you soon if I have not already……I am deeply grateful to you ALL and hope you know that!

I received so many well wishes, donations, gift certificate purchases, etc…over the many weeks I have been closed and I am grateful beyond measure.
SECOND…
This is a long and detailed email to some degree…take it in chunks and take your time! I really did try to keep it all relevant and “brief!”
I wanted to give you all the information about what you can expect upon arrival for your appointment. I am sure you have seen news reports, social media posts and conversations around this so I am assuming that at this stage…it won’t be too surprising. The State of CA has given every salon/independent stylist a 10 page guidelines pack that details the requirements of re-opening.
It’s going to take some time as a salon to make sure that all the guidelines are being put into place. We have been amassing the appropriate PPE in quantity, restructuring and building what we need in the interior of the salon, and getting a salon wide game plan together so we are all in accordance with the changes!
This is a big undertaking and rest assured that your safety, sanity, and well being are our highest priority right next to GOOD HAIR! We are Ready (almost!)
We will be open to see clients with appointments
(no walk in appointments or visits) starting JUNE 10th!
As you can imagine, it’s a herculean effort to get this right and Jennifer Johnson (my scheduling manager) and I will be starting to call each and every one of you from May 29th to hopefully June 6th.
Jennifer will be your first contact most likely in order to free me up to help get the salon ready! I will be calling people as well. I am going to lean on my scheduling manager to help me out! She will be in daily contact with me of course!
PLEASE WAIT for us to contact you and give us some time…we have a game plan and a fair system we will be following. Those closest to the day of closure will be contacted first since you have had to wait the longest! Remember…most likely ALL my appointments will take longer, use more supplies, and use more color…Just a heads up.
Again…we WILL absolutely call everyone and i ask that you do the hard thing…just wait to get your call! Being inundated with hundreds of calls and texts will slooow the process down, create confusion for us about who has been contacted and who hasn’t, as well as “muddy” our tracking system. Be patient my friends!
If you don’t hear from us by June 6th, reach out to us. We want to make sure we help everyone. Just know that we are systematically calling people and YOU ARE ON THE LIST!
If we leave you a Voicemail…please CALL BACK as soon as you can!
When you get an appointment booked you will be emailed (if you opted in) a confirmation of the appointment and with it will be a liability form that needs to be electronically answered and signed before you come in. I will have paper ones to sign for those that do not get my emails or for any other reason.
Please be patient, be kind, and understanding that we are ALL navigating this together and we are entering a phase that will not look normal, feel normal, or be normal. Let’s treat ourselves and each other tenderly.
We are all just humans doing our best and this re-opening experience is bound to have hiccups and bumps. Let’s stay flexible and open to change (the only constant in life!)
Your appointment will generally follow this basic structure:
1. When you arrive at your appointment time (try not to be early) TEXT ME you are in the parking lot. I will then text you back or wave you in (if i can see you!) This is to make sure we do not get a gathering of folks waiting inside for their appointments. If you do not have a cell phone…wait outside by the front doors. I will come to you. Please only do this if you do not have a cell phone!
2. When you come in, with a mask on that loops around your ears (easier to do hair), I will provide one for $1 if you don’t have one. I will take your temp with an infrared touchless thermometer and then you wash/sanitize your hands. If you exhibit a temp of 100 degrees we will reschedule your appointment for 2 weeks later.
3. Meet me at my chair when you are done in the bathroom (please use the sanitary cleaning agents to sanitize what you touched) and then we have you sign the liability form.
4. We consult and get that Mane Tamed!
5. We will both be following the guidelines posted below…
Health Protocols
I MUST be prudent in my public position of leaning towards safety, cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation. I also must follow State and County guidelines that have been given to me. It’s literally in my job description as a hairdresser and it’s professionally ethical to err on the side of caution, especially since I see so many people in close contact all day long.
I am aware that some of these protocols are new, uncomfortable, and may even feel silly or embarrassing. They are for me too! Please do not take them personally. As a business owner I need to do what’s right for as many people as I can.
Many of these measures are temporary and hopefully only affect you for a couple appointments…
Some of the MANY measures we will be taking-
- Sanitation-Sanitize stations and shampoo bowls before & after each client. Sanitize front desk, bathroom, all shared surfaces, and all door handles every 30-60min. Sanitize every tool in between every client.
- Hand washing-We wash our hands all day long and we ask that upon arrival you wash your hands before sitting down and I will too!
- Social Distancing – We are lucky enough that our stations are designed with plenty of room around them and we will only be seeing one client per stylist to minimize the number of guests in the salon. As well as limiting the number of stylists working on a shift.
- Masks – I will wear a mask and I ask that you bring and wear a mask to your appointment ( I have limited extras in case you forget) and I ask that you wear one that secures behind the ears so i can easily do your hair. I will also most likely, drape a towel over your face at the shampoo bowl.
- Appointment Times– I am extending all service times by 30 minutes to allow for time in-between each client to properly sanitize and follow hygiene guidelines. We ask that you arrive at your appointed time and no earlier. This minimizes the number of potential people in the waiting area.
- Illness– If you have been ill, have a fever, have an active cough, or been around someone who has been ill, please wait 14 days to reschedule your appointment. Please be respectful of this request..if you are visibly ill we will ask for you to reschedule your appointment 2 weeks later.
**I will be checking temperatures with an infrared thermometer when you arrive.
- In-Salon: We will only be allowing in clients who are being actively worked on..that means no friends, or family with you or stopping by during the appointment. For right now, that includes no kids so please make arrangements. I will also be rescheduling all kids cuts until 4 weeks after we have officially reopened which is JULY 8Th and after.
- Touchless Greetings & Goodbyes – We will not be shaking hands or hugging at this time. UGH. I hate this one.
- Beverages and food – Please do your best to bring in your own beverages and as far as food goes…please make arrangements to eat beforehand to limit eating in the salon.
- Limited high touch point items – While it was always nice to have magazines and other amenities for clients, now is the time to take a more minimalist approach and discard any non-essential items. This will help reduce touch points and client to client interactions. Please limit any belongings that you bring with you perhaps to your phone, a book, and forms of payment (rather than your handbag).
- Check out- Last, but not least, all check out transactions will be done at the chair and I will be helping you buy retail products. If you can use Cash, Venmo, Paypal, or write a check instead of a CC that would reduce the touch points as well.
- Extra fees- If you use a CC to pay for services there will be a $3 credit card usage fee on haircuts only and a $4 charge on Color and/or Color/cut services. There will also be (for the time being) a safety and sanitation fee of $7 per appointment. If I have to use a lot more color than normal to address your current hair needs or we have to do some “correcting” I will add on an “extra color bowl” charge…I will communicate this to you at the time of service, of course.
If you have questions about any of the above protocols and how they may relate to any medical or other concerns you may have, please reach out to me
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT, and we can talk!

May 9th UPDATE:
A Brave New World and Fresh Start
Good Lord, where to begin?! First, THANK YOU is where i want to start. Thank YOU for being my client and thank you for your patience! I know that when the clock struck midnight on Dec.31st, THIS is not the year we envisioned. Yet, here we are. Together in this moment!
I don’t want to bombard you all with too much information and not everyone has chosen to receive my email updates, so…I will cover some of the most important broad strokes here in this email.
I created a web page on my website that you can go to for all the pertinent information regarding what the rescheduling process will look like, what health protocols in the salon will in effect to protect our community, myself, and you. There will also be info. on my work schedule changes, and any updates/promotions I want you to know about!
That web page is going to be the full picture and contain important information to the process of restarting business back up again in the “new normal.”
I am asking every client to read and familiarize themselves with my “FRESH START” information BEFORE they come in for their first appointments with me!
I have included the link below. Just click on it and it will take you right there.
Here is the link:
https://unifyhairstudio.com/book-appointment-24-7/
All this “reflection time” coupled with turning 50 years of age in my living room (ha, ha!) has led to some of the changes you will read below. I have been tasked by my SOUL to stride forward in a new way and leave behind some of the ways of the past few years. Scary but exciting. I am sure many of you have faced similar watershed moments in your lives!
LET’S GET TO IT!!
1. SCHEDULING:
1. Rescheduling assistance
Jennifer Johnson, my scheduling HERO/assistant, and I will be reaching out to EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU from the day I send this email to get you all settled with new appointments. I have over 200 clients that have had their appointments discombobulated and it’s going to take me some time to get through that many phone calls and each person’s unique hair situation.
So, she and I have a game plan mapped out and we will be FAIR, mindful, and diligent. I ask for patience, respect, and FLEXIBILITY and we will offer the same in return.
Basically, I have to play Triage with everyone’s unique hair situation. Literally, EVERY single one of my clients is mostly past their “due date” for a hair appointment. This is new to me as well as to you and i bet there will be learning curves along the way. We will do our BEST to minimize them and create a smooth and even flow to getting back to work!
ONLINE BOOKING:
If you want to take matters into your own hands and reschedule yourself…there is a way! I do have online booking and for some people it’s a breeze and others find it challenging for a variety of reasons. The site works just fine though 🙂
Here is the link: https://unifyhairstudio.com/book-appointment-24-7/
or you can use https://www.vagaro.com/seanlevahn
2. HEALTH GUIDELINES:
For the past 15 years I have been following California State Board of Cosmetology hygiene guidelines in regards to sanitation, health of clients and my own health.
I will be adding another few layers “on top” of those protocols with regards to the Covid-19 Virus. I will outline to you what you can expect from me and what I can expect from you. Please familiarize yourself with the health protocols by going to my website. Link is below!
As we move forward with this, please remember…it’s temporary, it’s out of respect to ALL my clients you see and don’t see, it’s respectful to my health, and to our community. If you have questions about any of the health protocols please contact me BEFORE your appointment and we can talk about your concerns.
3. REWARD POINTS PROGRAM and QUARTERLY PROMOS:
I have changed the current program and added some promos for Spring/Summer! Details are on my website.
4. NEW WORK HOURS:
I will be working a total of 4 days a week (some weekdays, weeknights/weekends) and about 40 hours per week versus the 60-70 hrs a week and 6-7 days a week schedule i have done for many, many years. It’s a New Era!
5. PRICE ADJUSTMENTS:
Effective upon re-opening, there will be a $4 credit card charge fee if you want to use a credit card to process your payments. Feel free to use Cash, Check, Paypal, or Venmo instead of a card.
Beginning on Sept.1st I will be adjusting my prices, and as we get into July, I will detail that out with plenty of notice.
6. EVERYTHING ELSE:
I have reflected back on this past year going to full time self-employment and the lessons learned. It will come as no surprise at all to most of you…I worked too much for any one person to stay sane!
So, moving into My Fresh Start, I will be adjusting my work schedule back to the human realm and actually taking FOR REAL days off!
That all said…that enforced “break” , as nice as it was in it’s own way (for me) WILL and HAS effected my business and life in many ways that i can’t foresee as of yet. I, like millions of small business owners across the planet, were quite effected by this and it’s ripple effects are yet to be seen.
I DO have 100% TRUST in GRACE, LOVE, and COMMUNITY that we will all rise to the Occasion and help each other using wisdom, compassion, understanding, and patience with one another.
This cooperation is one of the defining characteristics of the Human Spirit as well as resilience, adaptability, and strength!
Thank you SO MUCH and SEE YOU SOON!
THE LINK TO MY WEBSITE AND ALL THE DETAILS OF EVERYTHING ABOVE IS BELOW…PLEASE CLICK AND READ BEFORE YOU COME IN FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT.

If that link does not work for any reason I will be texting it to you as well and you can always go to my website and navigate your way to the info.

APRIL 14th UPDATE:
As you may be aware…Governor Newsome gave a speech today outlining the process of gradual re-entry of California back into the work force and social interactions. The stay at home order currently extends to May 3rd and as restrictive measures are relaxed and health data comes in…that may change. SLO county also is mirroring that timeframe in their county wide health updates as well.
As far as moving forward with re-scheduling everyone (over 200 clients!) I’ll be taking my cue from the above mentioned information and people. As you can imagine, the scheduling process is going to look a lot like the re-entry process for all of California.
I will be called on to juggle a number of factors, including but not limited to…HEALTH, social distancing state/county guidelines, individual circumstance, client finances, scheduling errors, overwhelm and burnout on my end! The process will be be Gradual, in stages, and with keen attention to detail to minimize chaos and maximize success!
I am happy to say that I am honoured that you all have supported me in a myriad number of ways through this. Hopefully, you all feel the same way!
I am mostly likely going to let another week go by till we get a more clear sense that May 3rd can be a date I can count on to be able to re-schedule you safely without backtracking.
Once we begin the re-entry process, Jennifer (my scheduling assistant/behind the scenes hero!) and I will be calling EVERY single person to make sure everything goes smoothly.
So…We got this! As we transition forward, each person will have their own desires and ways they will handle everything that has happened and the new ways we all be experiencing soon. I’m here to help you with as many of my gifts as I can.
I’m sure you can understand when I say that I’ve been doing deep soul searching into the last year of moving into the space of being an independent hairdresser and it has been amazing, creative, and fulfilling…I’ll be making some pivots based on what I’ve learned, industry mentor advice, and this reflective time at home! I’m excited to share them with you as we get closer to actually re-scheduling each one of you!
Hold tight my friends…we are entering the final stretch of this phase. I’ll be there on the other side to create more beauty in the world!

MARCH 25th UPDATE:
MARCH 19th UPDATE:
Good morning, it’s Sean Levahn, your friendly neighborhood hairdresser! I’m sure you have heard that as of today, Thursday March 19th at 5pm all non essential businesses (that’s me) are closed and we are in a “shelter in place” order until further notice!
This “unprecedented in our lifetimes” experience will effect entire industries, livelihoods, schedules, myself, all of you and our friends in ways we can’t know. I do know that Life is a beautiful and messy affair and it’s the power of the HEART that allows us to weather all things.
Flexibility, Patience, Graciousness, Gratitude, and Compassion are the key qualities to embody during our “Divine Pause.”
Do Art, clean the house, walk on the beach (6ft apart), lay in the sunshine, read, cook, laugh, sing, cry, mourn, connect, learn a new skill, and become an even better human. THIS is our moment to master our fears.
Please be mindful that I’m going to do my best to reschedule everyone and that all of us are going to be touched by this in unknown and uncounted ways in the coming days. We will all need an extraordinary amount of trust and patience with each other as we piece our lives back together from the aftermath.
One of the things I don’t want to do is reschedule you too soon and then find out we are in lockdown even longer than we thought and have to move your appointments twice! So…let’s all get comfortable with the unknown for now.
Jennifer Johnson (my scheduling manager/Hero) and I will begin to reach out to all of you soon. Those amazing people with appointments within the next 30 days (that’s over a hundred people so far!) will be contacted and we will begin to figure this out in a way that works for us all.
This will take time to do and so I ask all of you for your continued Trust during the process. If you really want…I can lead virtual online “cut and color your own hair” classes…what could go wrong? Kidding 🙂
Please, stay safe and reach out to me if you need support. I can be a listening ear, and a healing presence in this time….I just can’t do hair at the salon nor do any house calls. That would be unethical, irresponsible, and could have devastating results.
You are not alone and we can all do this with Grace. Agreed? May we all become more unified, calm, and slow down. Be well and breathe!

Thank you!

Please contact me with ANY concerns or questions about this. I’m here for you and together we can make 2021 a brighter year filled with
Hope, Peace, and Community.

::NEWEST UPDATE::

Price Adjustments for 2021
The prices below reflect a $5 increase on each service…If you wish to pay by credit card there will be a $3 surcharge included with the cost. I accept all cards, Venmo, Zelle, Paypal, Check, and Cash.

Scheduling Manager,
Jennifer Johnson

Feel free to look up their website here to find out more:
https://originalmineral.com.au/pages/our-story
Be your Best self with each other, practice Kindness,
and Choose your Peace above all else!

May 29th UPDATE:
The long awaited day is upon us!
We will be re-opening by June 10th!
FIRST…
I just want to say THANK YOU for being so very patient and
Kind during this time.

My Story
It’s quite simple, really. My whole life I have felt like we need to create spaces of Calm and Rest in our lives in order to know ourselves, be our true self, and give back to the from a “full cup.”
I am always finding ways to weave in these moments into my personal life and my professional life. It makes perfect sense to offer these little rituals of self care to clients in the salon and my fellow hairdressers.
I believe that the time has come to create the experience of getting your hair done, and getting to do your client’s hair, as a wellness ritual. Bringing a mindful approach to your hair experience elevates the appointment and adds a certain quality of LIFE to all we do in your session. Where else can you be the center of someone’s attention while they are totally invested in helping you feel beautiful and love yourself? Well…ok, a massage appointment. Let’s have more of those too!
As a Conscious Hairdresser I am dedicated to personal growth, becoming a kinder human, uplifting my hairdressing peers, and doing great hair while I am at it.
